The Concept

Fragmented memories appear through processed visual composites, obscured figures, interrupted text, distortion, and shifting interface elements, while the Resolution Protocol uses a cleaner and more controlled visual structure.

"Fragments: An Interview with a Memory" is an original interactive redesign of "Waltz with Bashir." The film uses interviews, animation, recurring images, and disrupted chronology to explore memory, trauma, and responsibility. Our project translates those concerns into a browser-based conversational game in which the player questions ECHO, an AI archive assembled from incomplete wartime testimony.

The game’s conflict stems from the Resolution Protocol, which requires a single coherent official account even when the available memories remain contradictory. Choices based on pressure, empathy, and skepticism affect the interview, the evidence that survives, and the report the player eventually submits.

Fragmented memories will appear through original illustrated panels, obscured figures, interrupted text, and shifting interface elements, while the Resolution Protocol will use a cleaner and more controlled visual structure.

The project asks not only which claims can be supported, but also what responsibility an interviewer has when questioning, organizing, and presenting memories of historical violence.
